Valley Sport eNews - 8 May 2025

Hey there! April was a big month for community sport and club development - and we’re excited to share the highlights with you! From important reminders like the NFP Self-Review Return to gearing up to celebrate our incredible volunteers during the upcoming National Volunteer Week, there’s plenty to catch up on. We’ve also been out and about bringing inclusive sport to life and helping communities get active across the region. Read on to stay informed, inspired, and connected with everything happening at Valley Sport.

A friendly reminder about your Annual NFP Self-Review Return

Is your club a not-for-profit with an ABN? The ATO is cracking down on clubs that don’t lodge their annual NFP self-review return. Miss it, and your tax-exempt status could be at risk!

🗓️ The deadline for 2023/24 was March 31 – but if you’ve missed it, there’s still time to get support and stay compliant before penalties kick in from July 2025.

Let’s keep our clubs compliant and thriving!

National Volunteer Week is Coming
Let’s Celebrate our Volunteers!

National Volunteer Week is the perfect time to recognise the amazing contributions of your club or facility’s volunteers. To help you join the celebration we have a few resources that can help to share your stories and celebrate the amazing volunteers in our communities.

Volunteering Australia Resources
Volunteering Australia have put together a collection of customisable creative assets—social media graphics, posters, and email templates. Add your logo and photos of your dedicated volunteers to make it your own and shine a spotlight on their incredible efforts!

Australian Sports Commission (ASC)
This year, the ASC is giving “3 Cheers for Volunteers” and putting volunteers on the map—literally! A new digital engagement map will feature volunteer profiles from across the country, and soon, you’ll be able to add your own stories to it and share them on your social channels. From 19 May you can visit the Volunteer Map to find and nominate the sport volunteers over 18 years old who make a difference in your community and give them 3 Cheers today!

The ASC also has a toolkit available for National Volunteer Week which is now live. The toolkit contains editable socials tiles, web and newsletter graphics, downloadable posters, key messages and more.

Valley Sport - Shining a Light on Our Volunteers | 3 Cheers for Volunteers 🎉
Valley Sport is proud to join Volunteering Australia and the Australian Sports Commission (ASC) in celebrating the incredible people who make sport happen- on and off the field!

At Valley Sport, our Project Officers have already been connecting with local clubs to gather volunteer stories, which we will be proudly highlighting throughout the week.

🙋 Do you know a volunteer who deserves the spotlight?
We’d love to hear from you! If there’s someone at your club who deserves recognition, please reach out - we would love to help share their story and give them the cheers they deserve.

Let’s make this National Volunteer Week unforgettable. 3 Cheers for Volunteers!

Move Moira: An Amazing Celebration of Getting Active in April!

Four fantastic days, four vibrant towns - our Project Officer, Lucy, was on the move throughout April for Move Moira, bringing energy and enthusiasm to communities across the Moira Shire.

From Numurkah and Yarrawonga to Cobram and Nathalia, it was a joy to see families getting active and embracing healthy habits together.

Big thanks to our wonderful partners: Moira Shire Council, NCN Health and Yarrawonga Health for making it all possible.

That’s a wrap on our Inclusive Sport,
Come & Try Sessions in Wallan!

We recently wrapped up our Inclusive Sport, Come and Try Sessions in Wallan - and what an incredible five weeks it’s been!

From Zumba and basketball to soccer, football, pickleball and tennis, the courts and grounds were alive with energy, laughter, and plenty of new experiences. It was inspiring to see so many participants step outside their comfort zones and give something new a go.

A huge thank you to our partners, Nexus Primary Health and Goulburn Valley Gangarru Parasports, whose collaboration and support made this series possible. Together, we delivered five action-packed sessions that brought inclusive sport to life and strengthened our sense of community.

We can’t wait to see what’s next!
