Hey there! From easing the load on volunteers with Club Hub, to building disaster-ready clubs and rolling out Emergency Resilience Workshops, September has been a big month of progress across our region.
We’ve also celebrated the energy of our communities with Mitchell Shire events, the Benalla Come & Try Day, and important reminders like R U OK? every day in sport.
Read on to explore how clubs are working with Valley Sport and partners to create safe, inclusive, and sustainable environments where community sport can thrive.

Club Hub - Lightening the Load for Sporting Volunteers
Running a community sporting club takes passion — but it also takes a lot of paperwork, compliance, and behind-the-scenes admin. That’s where Club Hub comes in.
Club Hub is a Valley Sport initiative designed to ease the load for clubs and volunteers. From child safety and committee support to risk management, document storage, and compliance, the program provides tools, templates, training, and tailored guidance to help clubs run smoothly. With easy-to-use digital platforms and ongoing support, volunteers can spend less time on admin and more time focusing on people and sport — while knowing their club is organised, compliant, and ready for the future.
Supported through Sport and Recreation Victoria’s Sustainable Volunteer Workforce Program, Club Hub offers practical assistance such as:
Website improvements to boost visibility and connection with members and the wider community
Cloud-based storage systems to simplify record keeping and handovers
The Level Up child safety portal, ensuring every club can provide a safe and inclusive environment for children and young people
Broadford Bowls Club Leads the Way
Valley Sport is pleased to acknowledge Broadford Bowls Club as the first club to sign on to Club Hub. By embracing tailored support, the club is showing strong leadership and commitment to building a modern, inclusive, and sustainable future. Broadford Bowls is setting an important example for other community clubs across the region, and we look forward to sharing their progress as the program continues to grow.
How Your Club Can Benefit
By engaging with Club Hub, clubs can ease the burden on volunteers, strengthen governance, and build confidence that their operations are future-ready. Valley Sport is excited to support more clubs on this journey and help ensure community sport continues to thrive across the Goulburn Valley.

Building Disaster Ready Clubs: Valley Sport Leads Recovery Planning in Shepparton
In September, we worked with five Shepparton sporting clubs to strengthen their ability to plan, prepare and respond to emergencies. The Disaster Recovery and Prevention Planning Workshop guided club leaders through creating tailored recovery toolkits covering risk assessments, asset management, critical contacts, and emergency procedures.
This initiative follows the devastating 2022 floods and highlights the vital role sport plays in resilience and community recovery. With Shepparton’s success paving the way, the program will expand to Benalla and Mitchell shires in the coming months.

Courts, Fields & Clubs: September in Action
September has been a big month for community sport across our region! We are proud to see the strength of our local sporting community on display.
Read on for the full stories and see how clubs are creating safer, stronger, and more connected communities.
September was a big month for community sport in Mitchell Shire, with two fantastic events bringing people together, building skills, and strengthening clubs. In Wallan, our Come & Try Badminton Day was a smash hit, with 23 participants of all ages and abilities giving badminton a go. Guided by coach Michael Simpkins, the session was filled with fun, new skills, and plenty of community connection. A huge thank you to our partners Nexus Primary Health, Mitchell Shire Council, Mitchell Youth Services, and Badminton Victoria for helping make the day possible. Meanwhile, in Broadford, 21 volunteers from seven local clubs came together for a Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) Course at Broadford Bowls Club 🍻. The strong turnout shows how valuable this training is in helping clubs run safe, fun, and compliant events. Together, these initiatives highlight the passion and commitment of Mitchell Shire’s sporting community to create safe, inclusive, and welcoming spaces for all. | ![]() |

In September we joined the nation in celebrating R U OK? Day - but the message doesn’t end there. Checking in with teammates, coaches, volunteers, and friends is something we can all do every day. Through the Hey Sport, R U OK? initiative, free resources are available to help sporting clubs create environments where people feel connected and supported. These tools are designed for coaches, administrators, officials, volunteers, and participants - anyone who plays a role in sport. They’ll help you: Let’s work together to build sporting communities that are stronger, safer, and more supportive. 👉 Explore resources here: ruok.org.au/sport |
What an amazing day in Benalla at the recent Come & Try Day! Our Project Officer, Lucy, had a fantastic time meeting local sport clubs and seeing participants out having fun, learning new skills, and giving new activities a go. Days like this highlight the real strength of community sport - clubs connecting, families getting involved, and people discovering something new. A big thank you to everyone who stopped to chat with Lucy. She loved hearing about your clubs and the great work you’re doing, and she’s looking forward to continuing those conversations to help your clubs grow stronger together. | ![]() |
