Active April 2023

April saw Valley Sport out and about at Active April events across the Moira Shire. A wide range of activities for the kids took place including, Tennis, Arts and Craft, AFL, Soccer, Jumping Castles and more.

It was great to see over 150 children getting active at their local park or recreation ground in Yarrawonga, Cobram, Nathalia and Numurkah.

Community Flood Recovery Cricket Blast Programs

During the months of February and March Valley Sport with the support of Cricket Australia, delivered five, four week Cricket Blast Programs in five flood affected towns across the region.

250 primary aged students from Seymour, Shepparton, Mooroopna and Nathalia got to enjoy the game of cricket, with many participants being the first time they had been exposed to the game.

A massive thanks to Cricket Australia for providing these free programs for flood affected communities.

Join Love The Game Round

May is Love the Game month, which is an ideal time for your club to join the program and start raising awareness in your community about the risks and harms associated with sports gambling.

WHY SHOULD YOUR CLUB JOIN LOVE THE GAME?

Children are growing up surrounded by gambling promotions that make it seem like betting on sport is normal. This is a concern, with young men (18–24 years) now the largest group of sports bettors in Victoria and participation by young women rising.

Love the Game clubs refuse to take sports betting sponsorship, which reduces the exposure of young people to gambling ads. Participating clubs also help kids to understand the risks associated with gambling and equip them with the skills to make critical, informed decisions when they’re older.

Most importantly, they encourage kids to love the game, not the odds.

FREE CLUB PACK

Clubs that sign up to the Love the Game program and host a Love the Game round during the month of May will receive an exclusive pack containing training cones, a cap, clipboard, equipment bag, posters, and a conversation tip card. Click HERE to register.

Vic Kids Eat Well - Join the Movement!!

Vic Kids Eat Well offers participant community organisations great prizes and rewards, along with access to a network of amazing health promotion professionals. Parents and community members across Victoria will be proud to see their kids’ school, sports club and community centre involved.

The following steps explain how Vic Kids Eat Well works:

Step 1:  Community organisations join the movement and are connected to a dedicated health promotion professional who will support them every step of the way.

Step 2:   Organisations choose a small step, like kicking confectionary, or decide to make a bigger change, like changing up the menu and letting healthy food take the spotlight.

Step 3:  Progress is rewarded and celebrated. Vic Kids Eat Well is all about acknowledging milestones along the way – whether it’s skipping the deep fryer, or a overhauling the drinks fridge and saying goodbye to sugary drinks for good!

Step 4:  Organisations keep the momentum going and work through all the Vic Kids Eat Well actions. Next, they can continue their healthy eating journey through relevant healthy eating policies and guidelines with the support of Nutrition Australia’s Healthy Eating Advisory Service, and receive Victorian Government recognition through Cancer Council Victoria’s Achievement Program.
