Join the Network Today

The Greater Shepparton City Council and Valley Sport are proud to launch the Greater Shepparton Active Women and Girls Network!

The Network will provide a safe, open, and inclusive environment that gives a voice to a diverse range of women, girls, and their advocates within the greater Shepparton region. This will be an opportunity to meet and work together to address, improve and trial innovative approaches, that aim to improve sport and recreation participation for women and girls. As well as better the current experiences that women and girls are already involved in. The Network not only targets on-field/active participation, but also involvement in all levels of sport administration, leadership, education, and social sport participation.

With the aim to formally launch the network in March 2023, the network will offer a range of networking sessions and activities to be guided and designed by network members.

We are especially looking to create a diverse and inclusive network that aims to represent our whole community and anyone who identifies with any of the following groups is highly encouraged to apply.

  • Girls 16-25

  • Women 25+

  • Women 65+

  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander

  • CALD

  • LBGTQI+

  • Male champions/advocates

  • People with a disability

Get Active Kids Voucher ProgramBecome a Get Active Kids Voucher Activity Provider Today!You can register NOW to become a Get Active Kids Activity Provider and help kids get involved in sport and active recreation.By registering with the Program, you will be able to accept vouchers of up to $200 to support families facing financial barriers to pay for sporting memberships and participation costs.The Program is a great way to attract more participants and to support existing members facing financial barriers to participation.To be eligible under the Program you must meet the following criteria:

  • Be an incorporated entity registered with the appropriate regulator.

  • Possess an active Australian Business Number (ABN).

  • Be affiliated to a Sport and Recreation Victoria recognised Victorian State Sporting Association (SSA) or Victorian State Sport and Active Recreation Body (SSARB).

On The Front Foot

Does your club have members struggling with ill mental health. Do you hold concerns for a teammate, coach or volunteer, but don't how you can best support them? Your club should consider hosting a free On The Front Foot Workshop.  On the Front Foot is designed to educate members of local community sports clubs on how they can identify and support not only themselves but other club members that may be dealing with ill mental health.  If you have any questions or would like to express interest in hosting a FREE workshop at your sporting club please contact [email protected]

Grant Writing Workshop

July 2022 Valley Sport hosted an online grant writing workshop for sporting clubs.

The aim of the workshop was for participants to develop a better understanding of the grant writing process and how they can write successful grants.

Strategic Planning Workshop

2022 saw Valley Sport host an online strategic planning workshop for clubs.

Club representatives from across the region attended the session to learn the importance of having a strategic plan and how it can help their club, as well as the basis of developing their own strategic plan.

GV Harmony Cup Returns for 2023!

While Princess Park receives some much needed updates after last years flood, Deakin Reserve is set and ready to be the temporary home of the annual GV Harmony Cup. The much loved and anticipated All Abilities Cricket Cup, will see a day full of round robin style adaptive cricket matches for our teams to enjoy.

Valley Sport, Shepparton Youth Club United Cricket Club and Cricket Victoria are excited to once again offer this wonderful community event that provides people with a disability the chance to perhaps learn a new sport or put their skills to the test while catching up with friends who will be travelling form far and wide to participate in the event.

The details are as follows:

  • Date: Wednesday 22nd March 2023

  • Time: Teams to Arrive at 9.30am for games to commence at 10am

  • Location: Deakin Reserve Shepparton. Main entry point on Skene Street.

  • Cost: $33.00 Per Team, Spectator entry is free

Community Sport Emergency Flood Assistance Program The Community Sport Emergency Flood Assistance program provides provides a $5000 payment for flood affected clubs. The application process has been designed to make it as simple a possible to apply for, and requires minimal information from flood effected clubs. Payments will be made to clubs within 10 business days of their application.Funds can be used for the following:

  • Playing equipment e.g. bats, match balls, equestrian jumps, racquets, gymnastic mats, gloves and badminton nets

  • Injury prevention equipment e.g. goal post padding, batting pads, gloves, goalie gear, helmets, catcher’s gear

  • First-aid equipment e.g. defibrillator, stretchers, first aid supplies, kits and signage

  • Non-participation equipment e.g. public address systems, trophies, wicket covers, IT equipment, alarm systems, scoreboards

  • Canteen or clubroom items e.g. lockers, shelving, furniture, microwaves, food and drinks, cooking utensils, carpet, and whitegoods

  • Maintenance equipment e.g. lawn mowers, rollers, line markers, hose, compressors, cleaning equipment

Business and Community Sport Flood Recovery GrantsGrants are now available to support flood-affected Victorian businesses, not-for-profit or community sport and active recreation organisations in eligible local government areas.If your business or organisation has experienced direct damage to your property, assets, stock or equipment during the recent Victorian floods you may be eligible for up to $50,000.The grant can be used to cover eligible expenses to help you clean up, recover and resume operating as quickly as possible.To apply for the Flood Recovery Grant, you need to first successfully apply for the $5000 one-off grant from either the Small Business Immediate Flood Relief Program or the Community Sport Emergency Flood Assistance Program. The $50,000 includes the $5000 already received through these grant programs.If you wish to apply for the grant of up to $50,000 but have difficulties first applying for the $5000 grant, call the Business Victoria Hotline on 13 22 15 or register online for support from a Business Relief Adviser.This program is jointly funded by the Commonwealth and Victorian Governments through Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements.For information or to apply, see: business.vic.gov.au/floodrecoveryThis program is jointly funded by the Commonwealth and Victorian Governments through Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements.

Emergency Sporting Equipment Grant ProgramThe Emergency Sporting Equipment Grant Program helps Victorian sport and active recreation community organisations replace Essential Sports Equipment that has been lost or destroyed as a consequence of unpreventable and exceptional events such as fire, flood, significant storms, theft or criminal damage.

Grants of up to $2,000 (excluding GST) are available towards the replacement cost of the lost or damaged equipment that is owned by the applicant organisation.  

AFL Strategic Community Investment FundThe Strategic Community Investment Fund (SCIF) is designed to financially assist initiatives that can support Community Clubs affiliated to AFL Victoria in three key strategic areas:

  • Grow and assist volunteer capacity.

  • Grow and diversify participation.

  • Improve club environments and player experiences.

Examples of eligible projects include:

  • Improving club financial practices such as upgrading from manual cash handling to electronic POS processes

  • Subsidies for training and playing uniform and boots, registration and membership, up to $750 per player, etc

  • Safety netting behind the goal posts

Australian Cricket Infrastructure Fund

The Australian Cricket Infrastructure Fund (ACIF) provides funding for community cricket facility projects, with a focus on growing participation and promoting greater access for all.

  • Improve the quantity, quality, innovation and consistency of cricket infrastructure across all levels of community cricket

  • Support the development of community cricket facilities that contribute to the delivery of Australian Cricket’s strategic priorities

  • Support cricket facility development in areas of demand, particularly areas of significant participation and population growth

  • Create inclusive and accessible environments for cricket participants and the broader community

  • Collaborate with all levels of government and funding partners to invest in strategic infrastructure priorities

The program has two funding categories:

Minor $1000 – $10,000

Major $10,001 – $30,000

*The maximum grant amount available is up to 50% of the total project cost.*Closes: 26 March 2023

Our Sporting Future Grant Program

The Our Sporting Future Program has been established to assist community sporting organisations with the implementation of small to medium sized facility development projects and development programs for new and emerging sporting organisations across the municipality.There are five funding categories:

  • Minor: will accommodate projects on a $1 to $1 basis requesting assistance from Council of up to, but not exceeding $15,000

  • Major: will accommodate projects on a $1 to $1 basis requesting assistance from the Council of up to, but not exceeding $30,000. There is no in-kind component for Major projects.

  • Sports Aid: will provide funding between $500 and $5,000 (without matching contributions) for the following types of projects:

  • Women and Girls: will provide funding towards programs that increase opportunities for women and girls in sports clubs for development programs or training between $500 and $10,000.

  • Youth Participation: will provide funding towards initiatives to increase participation in sport for teams/sport between sixteen and eighteen years of age where significant decrease in participation has occurred over previous 1-3 years, for between $500 and $5,000

Community Strengthening Grants - Major

Community Strengthening Grants can support Moira Shire Community Groups and Sporting Clubs with funding of up to $10,000 in the following streams:

  • Arts and Culture

  • Community Events

  • Equipment

  • Environmental Sustainability

  • Health Promotion

  • Tourism (must attract visitors from outside of the Shire)
